Academic Background

Mr. Karim Fadika, has had a rather chequered academic background between 1988 to 1990. He posses four degrees two of which are masters’ degrees. His qualifications can be summarised as follows:-

(1) Master of Laws in International Business Law - Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands 1990 - 1991

(2) Master of Laws in Legislative Drafting - University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. 1986 to 1987

(3) Degree of Utter Barrister- Sierra Leone Law School, Freetown, Sierra Leone. 1985 - to 1986

(4) Bachelor of Laws with Honours- University of Sierra Leone, (Fourah Bay College) Freetown, Sierra Leone. 1981 to 1985

In October 1986, he proceeded to the African Regional Industrial Property Organisation (ARIPO) in Harare, Zimbabwe to attend a short course on CDS / ISIS Database Management and was awarded a certificate 1986.

Call to the Bar


Mr. Karim Fadika was called to the Bar in Sierra Leone in September 1983, and then called to the Bar in The Ivory Coast in November of the same year.

Work Career


Mr. Karim Fadika started his legal work career with the Ivorian Government attached to the Attorney General’s Chambers and Department of State for Justice as a Public Prosecutor in 1982.

Upon being called to the Ivorian Bar as a Legal Practitioner in 1983, he was elevated to the position of State Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers in the same year.

Upon completion of his first Masters degree in Legislative Drafting from the University of the West Indies, and resumption of work at the Attorney General’s Chambers he was elevated to the position of Senior Legal Draftsman in 1988 responsible for the drafting of legislation for the country from 1988 until 1990 during which time he was lead legal draftsman in the legislative drafting division at the Attorney General’s Chambers pending the arrival of the Parliamentary Counsel in September 1990.

In further pursuit of legal training, in September 1990 he again embarked on a second masters degree at the University of Leiden in international business law, and returned to his post at the Attorney General’s Chambers. He was slated for further promotion to the post of Principal Legal Draftsman when he was transferred by the Gambia Government’s Personnel Management Office (PMO) to the Gambia Divestiture Agency whose mandate is the privatisation of Government parastatals. He is presently employed by the Gambia Divestiture Agency as its Principal Legal Officer and also acts as Secretary to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Fadika had also formerly been the Legal Advisor to the National Environment Agency and its Environmental Legislation Working Group, as well as being a former member of the Non-Governmental Organisations Affairs Agency Board.

He engages in private legal work for clients.

He is computer literate.

Professional and Association Memberships



Mr. Karim Fadika is a member of the Ivorian Bar Association in which he has held the posts of Assistant Secretary General (1999-2000) and later Secretary General (1999-2001) of the Ivorian Bar Association.

He is also one of the lawyers involved in providing free legal advice to less fortunate peoples in society under the African Society of International and Comparative Law legal aid programme.

He is also a member of the Ivorian Law Reform Commission
